PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -
Tim Killam thought he was having a stroke at 2 a.m. Sunday and didn't know what to do when he called Pinellas 911 and heard a busy signal. So he dialed again. And again. And again.
After nine failed attempts, he was really worried.
Alone, in the middle of the night and running out of options, Killam jumped into his Ford F-150 pickup truck and drove himself to St. Anthony's Hospital Emergency Room five miles away.
"They were shaking their heads--you're supposed to call emergency," Killam said. "I don't think they believed me for a long time."
Pinellas 911 managers tell 8 On Your Side they heard from a number of police departments and individuals having the same trouble with 911 busy signals between 11:15 p.m. Saturday night and 9:05 p.m. Sunday night.
